Important Information About Your Water Service Line

From Director of Public Works Joseph Venuti

Please be aware that recent mailings to City of Geneva water customers titled “Important Information About Your Water Service Line”, may have incorrect water service address information.   If you are a water customer and receive this notice, please follow the instructions that are listed on the second page, for the property that you do own.  If the “Regarding water service at the following address:” does not match property you own, do not despair.  We have identified a printing error with incorrect addresses and that is being corrected.   A second letter will soon be mailed and identified as “Corrected”.  We apologize for any questions, confusion or inconveniences this may have caused.

The City of Geneva is committed to providing safe drinking water to our customers and that means being proactive in complying with the requirements of the US EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision.  With your help, we have developed an initial water service line inventory and are continually collecting additional information about the materials of the water service lines in our distribution system.  A water service line is the pipe that connects a home of business to the public drinking water system.  Our current inventory shows at least a portion of the water service line materials at certain addresses have not yet been identified and are considered unknown, but may be lead.  As such, the City of Geneva is required to provide ongoing notifications for properties that may have lead service lines.

Please contact us by email at GenevaWater@geneva.ny.us to set up an appointment for City staff to complete a material verification of your water service line. The visit requires scheduled access to your water meter and can be completed within 15 minutes.  You can also scan the QR code on the letter with your smartphone camera for step-by-step instructions on how to identify your own water line materials and submit your results to the City.  If you have further questions or for more information about your water service line, you are always welcome to visit the Engineering Office located on the 3rd floor at City Hall,  47 Castle Street or call us at 315-789-3101.  We thank you for your continued involvement with the community wide water service line material identification program.
