GOVERNOR HOCHUL PLEDGES ADDITIONAL $3 MILLION IN EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FOR HOMEOWNERS IN HUDSON VALLEY, NORTH COUNTRY, AND FINGER LAKES REGIONS IMPACTED BY RECENT FLOODING 

Low- and Moderate-Income Homeowners in Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, Ontario, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties Now Eligible for Grants of Up to $50,000 for Qualified Flood Repairs.

Builds on Governor’s Ongoing Commitment to Support New Yorkers Impacted by Historic Deadly Flooding Governor Kathy Hochul today announced up to $3 million in emergency assistance will be made available to eligible homeowners in eight counties impacted by flooding and recent storm damage. The State funds will provide emergency repair grants to homeowners who suffered damage to their primary residence in the following counties – Clinton, Essex, and Hamilton in the North Country; Ontario in the Finger Lakes; and Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester in the Hudson Valley. This funding is in addition to the $3 million announced by Governor Hochul last month to assist homeowners affected by historic flooding. 

“This additional funding will help to provide relief to even more New Yorkers impacted by these devastating floods as they work to repair their homes and return to their normal lives,” Governor Hochul said. “My administration remains committed to assisting New Yorkers in any way possible as part of the recovery effort following last month’s historic storm.” 

The emergency grant funds announced today will cover damage incurred at a primary residence for homeowners who meet the program's income guidelines. New York State Homes and Community Renewal will oversee the program which will be administered by several non-profit organizations in each county. 

Homeowners in the affected regions can apply to receive funding to cover the cost of urgent repairs necessary to bring their home into a safe and habitable condition. Eligible work may include repair or replacement of electrical and plumbing systems, heating systems and appliances, flooring, drywall, insulation, windows, doors, siding, and roofing. A full list of qualified repairs and eligibility criteria are available on the HCR flood program website. 

Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded based on a scope of work approved by the local program administrators. Applicants must be homeowners whose primary residence is in one of the eight designated counties and who have incomes at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income. 

Eligible homeowners can apply for funding starting Friday, August 11th.

2023 DPW Street Resurfacing Program Tentative Schedule (UPDATE)

As part of the Street Resurfacing Project, DPW crews plan to perform asphalt milling Carter Rd from West North Street to Angelo Street this Friday 8-11-23. Work will begin at 7:00 AM and continue until about 3:30PM or as needed. Traffic will be reduced to one lane while work is being performed. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes as necessary.

Please find tentative schedules below that may affect your neighborhood or commute. Work will consist of milling off the existing surface course and then paving hot mix asphalt . Milling is the process of grinding off the top layer of asphalt or surface of a roadway. Resurfacing is the process of placing an asphalt overlay onto a roadway. The milling and paving process is noisy and may cause discomfort and disruption in the affected neighborhoods.

Although DPW takes steps to minimize the inconveniences, this work requires dump trucks and special machinery and will include traffic disruptions.

Additional work in these areas may include, structure adjustments, concrete sidewalk ramps, and pavement marking installations.

Please note we will not collect debris on private property, near parked cars, or in plastic bags.  No stumps, rocks, stone, construction debris, lumber, plastic, garbage, glass, furniture, rugs, bedding, tires, etc. will be picked up.  Please consider recycling and coordinate with your trash hauler for these items. 
Please be advised that property owners and residents are encouraged to please bring all yard debris to the City’s Resource Recovery Park at 41 Doran Avenue during the following hours:

DPW would like to remind property owners that City Codes Chapter 100 Brush, Grass and Weeds, Section 100-1 references control of growth and harmful vegetation. Please be aware that property, lots or land, including the area between the property line and the curb or for 10 feet outside the property line if there is no curb shall be maintained to ensure that no growth of weeds or grass shall exceed six inches. Please do not allow hedges, shrubs or trees to encroach onto public sidewalks and lines of sight of public roadways.

Ontario County Department of Public Works will close the County Road 4 at County Road 20 intersection beginning at 7:00 a.m. June 19, 2023 for approximately fourteen (14) weeks as work crews’ complete improvements at the intersection. Vehicles traveling on County Road 4 will be detoured using the following route: County Road 47, NY 5 & US 20, County Road 6. Vehicles traveling on County Road 20 will be detoured using the following route: NY 5 & US 20, County Road 47, NY 488.
