DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS 2024 SPRING YARD DEBRIS COLLECTION PROGRAM

The City of Geneva will begin spring yard debris pick up on Monday, April 15th and end on Friday, June 21st (weather permitting)

Property owners and residents may place leaves and yard debris between the sidewalk and curb for DPW removal.  Please place all leaves grass clippings, weeds and small brush debris in paper bags. Plastic bags will not be picked up.  If interested, the City of Geneva will provide a limited amount of paper lawn/leaf bags which can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office located on the first floor of City Hall, 47 Castle Street during normal operating hours.

Loose brush and branch debris must be no longer than 4 feet and not more than 6 inches in diameter. Consolidating small piles of debris into larger piles will help expedite pick up. DPW will start our final pass through the City on June 17, 2024.

Please note we will not collect debris on private property, near parked cars, or in plastic bags. No stumps, rocks, stone, construction debris, lumber, plastic, garbage, glass, furniture, rugs, bedding, tires, etc. will be picked up.  Please consider recycling and coordinate with your trash hauler for these items.

No person shall throw, cast, drop, put or place any trash or litter on the side of the road or at the fence. Violation of any provision of  City Code 218 Littering shall be punishable.

Storm Task Force

The members of the Storm Task Force met on March 12 and reviewed their charge, which is to research and provide recommendations to council for ways to respond to and mitigate storms in the City. The members have divided into three teams focused on Infrastructure (Headed by Director Venuti - B. Cochran, E. Norris, J. Sibeto) Preparation and Emergency Planning (Headed by Acting Chief Eveland & Chief Parrotta, A. Noone, J. Salotti, S. Wagner) and Communications and Community Education (headed by CM Hendrix, J. Fox, J. Hoyle, C. Sneider). The teams will be meeting on a regular basis and then come back as a Task Force. The Staff will be working with the teams to identify resources for the group to create their recommendations.

A few ideas that the groups brainstormed so far include:

•    Alarm system programming to check creek water levels

•    Creating a campaign focused on capturing water vs. run off

•    Reviewing ordinances and practices related to leaf collection, rain gardens, debris, and other methods to capture rain water

•    Researching the infrastructure and developing annual plans that are clearly communicated

•    Reviewing the creation of neighborhood alert programs and neighborhood response programs during weather events

•    The creation of new homeowner packets on obtaining abstracts, what to know during an event, who to call, etc.

Rain Barrel Workshop: April 27, 2024

Register for the upcoming Rain Barrel Workshop at the Mission Zero 3 event at the Ice Rink in Geneva on April 27, 2024! The workshop will be from 11am - 12:30pm .

Join the Ontario County Soil & Water Conservation District and the Geneva Green Committee for a rain barrel workshop! We will start with a short presentation and will follow with a demo on how to build your barrel. We will then help you build your own 55 gallon rain barrel. Installing a rain barrel is an easy way to protect our environment and save money. A rain barrel collects and stores rainwater from your roof that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains or streams. The water from your barrel can be used for watering flower gardens and lawns, washing cars, cleaning outdoor furniture, and the list goes on.
