RESOURCE RECOVERY PARK

The Resource Recovery Park hours of operation:

Thursdays & Saturdays

8:30 AM โ€“ 4:30 PM

General Rules:

Open Thursdays 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Saturdays 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. An attendant will be on site during these times.

For Geneva City and Town residents recycling and disposing of their residential materials. Not for commercial or business generated items. Yard debris and food scraps drop off remains free of charge.

Trash Compactor:  

Trash will be counted by the 30-gallon bag and must be in sealed bags that you can toss into the compactor. (2 bags allowed per punch on the card $75 card has 52 punch spots ) Household trash for this compactor includes Styrofoam, napkins and paper towels, wrappers and packets, plastic wrap and utensils, dirty paper cups and plates, flat glass, ceramics, and aerosol cans. Do not use the trash compactor for leaves and other yard waste, furniture, building materials, appliances, or hazardous waste like oil-based paint, electronic equipment, batteries, fluorescent bulbs (tube and compact), or medicines.

Co-Mingled Recycling Bin:  

You may toss empty and clean glass bottles, milk containers, and jars of any color; aluminum and tin cans and foil; plastic containers #1 - #7; ( identified by chasing arrows symbol with only #1 thru #7 on them) corrugated and cardboard paper boxes (broken down); office paper, junk mail, magazines, envelopes, and newspapers (unlimited recycling with the $20 permit)

Metal Bin:

You may toss scrap metal into this container and items made primarily of metal like steel, iron, copper, and aluminum. Not for plastics,  large appliances or items containing freon or hazardous materials.

Food Waste:

Dump your food waste in this container, including fruits, vegetables, bones, meat, and dairy, coffee grinds, egg shells, and shredded paper. 

Yard Debris Piles:

The City of Geneva will provide a limited amount of paper lawn/leaf bags which can be picked up at the City Clerkโ€™s office located on the first floor of City Hall, 47 Castle Street during normal operating hours.

Dump un-bagged or paper bagged leaves, shrub pruningโ€™s, and branches (no greater than 4 feet long and 6 inches in diameter) on the appropriate pile.  NO Plastic is allowed.  

Items NOT accepted include:

Construction and Demolition (C&D) - C&D is a type of waste that is not included in municipal solid waste (MSW). Materials included in C&D debris are steel, wood and wood products, drywall and plaster, brick and clay tile, asphalt shingles, bricks, concrete, asphalt, plumbing fixtures, non-asbestos insulation, empty buckets.

*Bulk trash, plastics, stumps, rocks, stone, construction debris, lumber,  furniture, rugs, bedding, tires.    

Reminder that Ontario County holds multiple household and hazardous waste disposal events during the year; Please check www.ontariocountyrecycles.org



Homeowners Rehab Program

The City of Genevaโ€™s Housing Rehabilitation Program Applications are Now Available!

The City of Geneva has received funding from New York State for the rehabilitation of owner occupied substandard single-family homes. The program can provide financial assistance to address home repair needs. Homeowners must be low-to-moderate in income, as per the table in the Program Brochure. Please see the Application Cover Letter, Program Brochure, and Program Application for complete guidelines. The City has hired Thoma Development Consultants to administer the program. 

Applications received by August 29, 2025 will be among the first to be prioritized; however, applications will continue to be accepted until all funds have been committed.  If you have any questions, or need assistance with completing your application, please contact Thoma Development Consultants at (607) 753-1433.

Milling and Paving

Public Notice: City of Geneva DPW Milling & Paving Work

The City of Geneva Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin roadway milling and paving in multiple locations throughout the city, including:

Seneca St, South Main St, Twomey Pl, Park Ave, Pulteney St, Prospect Ave, North Ave, Maple St, Pleasant St, Larchmont St, 5 & 20, the North & South Cloverleafs, the South Exchange St Parking Lot, and all intersecting streets.

Key Information:

  • Start Date: September 2nd
  • Duration: Approximately three weeks (subject to change due to weather or unforeseen conditions)
  • Impact: Parking and through-traffic will be limited during workdays. Parking restrictions will be issued by the City DPW and may be enforced via towing.

bridge work notice
Main Street Bridge Work Begins July 21!
NYSDOT will begin repairs on the Main Street Bridge over Routes 5&20 starting Monday, July 21. Crews will work on concrete slabs and sidewalks over the coming weeks (weather permitting).
-Lane closures, reduced parking & delays between Park Ave and St. Clair St
-Temporary signals will manage single-lane traffic
-Northbound traffic will be detoured via the posted North 14 Truck / East 5&20 route using the eastbound cloverleaf ramp
-Southbound traffic will continue over the bridge
-One lane at a time will be repaired, with lane shifts as needed
Please consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Thank you for your patience as we make these important safety improvements.
